POSITION TITLE: Instructor or Assistant/Associate Professor of Statistics Jarvis Christian College is accepting applications for a 9-month, full-time Instructor/Professor of Statistics. The successful candidate must be a proactive, solution-oriented thinker with a strong desire to teach statistical approaches to solve complex data problems. The instructional core will align with the cross-campus instructional goals in statistics and mathematics to enhance data science/decision making. This opportunity will promote the development of a robust suite of data services that will provide the instructional support to enhance critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills necessary for c career readiness in the 21st century. Through statistical analysis and data visualization/management students will participate in challenging and inspiring discovery-based learning. The position also offers the unique opportunity to increase data literacy across disciplines through active collaboration with multiple academic departments. The collaborative interaction aims towards the development of course-specific projects that will implement underlying statistical methods into data generating processes. QUALIFICATIONS: •A minimum of masters (M.S.) in Statistics (or subfield) with additional experience in mathematics, big data analytics, or data science •Extensive background in applying analytical rigor and novel statistical methods to large data sets •Highly proficient experience with data visualization and statistical software packages including SPSS, SAS, Matlab, R, or Tableau •Experience designing statistical models and preparing statistical analysis of tables and figures •Ability to conduct comprehensive evaluations and validations data-driven results produced by external industry experts and internal faculty or staff •Experience with probability, applied statistics, theoretical statistics, predictive statistics and mathematical models •Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft applications to educate diverse audiences •Ability to conceptualize, communicate, and implement short and long term project goals RESPONSIBILITIES:•Teach full-time courses in Statistics and mathematics with an emphasis in Data Science •Serve as an undergraduate mentor to promote excitement, expertise, and engage the 21st century learner •Review statistical software packages for use in the classroom •Determine types of data to be collected from various surveys, studies, and other sources •Incorporate statistical methods to process, analyze, and report data according to specifications •Interpret data collected to assist the College in determining the resources required for future projects and skills needed in specific career pathways •Assist in the development of various statistical tools such as questionnaires and surveys in accordance with the specific needs of the program and/organization. •Develop course material for the Data Science Boot Camp •Develop research proposals and co-author grant funded programs •Promote interaction between faculty and government stakeholders •Foster development of emerging discipline-based topics •Contribute to writing of Scientific Articles, Publication in Research Journals •Engage in departmental and college-based service activities and serve on committees •Participate in professional organizations, workshops, and scientific conferences SALARY: Commensurate with Experience and Qualifications APPLICATION PROCESS: A letter of interest; curriculum vitae; unofficial transcript(s) from all graduate coursework; and the names, titles, telephone numbers, and email addresses of three (3) professional references are required for applicants to be considered.
