Description:

Jarvis Christian University is looking for a part time Registered Nurse to work 20 or more hours a week. Jarvis is a small private residential university with many of its students living on campus in dorms, and several students learning online. The Registered Nurse will work primarily with the residential students and must be registered to work in the state of Texas.

The candidate must have at least one to two years’ experience working as a RN. Previous primary care nursing experience a plus. It is preferred that the candidate have already earned a BSN or is working toward earning this degree. The candidate should demonstrate the following capabilities:
	The ability to work collaboratively. Some of the time, this candidate will be working with the full time Nurse Director of Student Health on projects and providing care to the students.
	The ability to function independently. Some of the time, the candidate will be working independently when the Director of Student Health is not present on campus.
	Demonstrate strong assessment skills and accurate diagnostic ability. The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to take a history, elicit a chief complaint, perform a brief review of symptoms, assess vital signs, and perform a brief examination of students who present as feeling ill or injured in the student health clinic.
	Develop a plan of care appropriate for the student’s condition (for example, offer over-the-counter medication to treat symptoms; or apply an ice compress and advise rest for 2 or 3 days for a minor injury).
	Triage more seriously sick or injured students (or staff members). Send more acutely ill or injured people to urgent care or emergency care if indicated or call emergency medical services if it is a true emergency. Follow emergency protocol if calling EMS (notify security, provide first aid measures as indicated, stay with patient until EMS personnel take patient away by ambulance, find out which facility patient is being taken).
	Actively participate in the university’s COVID-19 Surveillance Program. Perform point-of-care COVID-19 testing as instructed.
	Demonstrate creativity in participation of mini health fairs to educate students about health topics and encourage healthy behaviors.
	Demonstrate flexibility in work hours scheduling: sometimes the candidate will work morning hours, sometimes afternoon hours, sometimes evening hours, and sometimes weekend hours. In return, the university will attempt to accommodate the candidate’s school schedule hours if the candidate is a student working toward a BSN degree.
