Founders homecoming 2025

Founders' Homecoming

Every year, Jarvis Christian University celebrates its rich history and enduring legacy during Founders' Homecoming—a cherished tradition that unites current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members in a joyful reunion filled with reflection, pride, and celebration.

Honoring Our Founders' Legacy

Founded in 1912, Jarvis Christian University was established with a mission to provide educational opportunities to African Americans in East Texas. The institution was born from the vision of Major James Jarvis and Ida Van Zandt Jarvis, whose dedication to education and service laid the foundation for generations of scholars and leaders. Founders’ Homecoming is a time to honor their legacy and reflect on the university’s journey, growth, and contributions to higher education.

A Weekend of Tradition and Celebration

Founders' Homecoming is a multi-day event that brings the Jarvis Christian University family together for an array of exciting activities:

  • Alumni Gatherings: A time for alumni to reconnect with former classmates and faculty, rekindling the bonds that were forged during their time at Jarvis.
  • Homecoming Parade: This lively parade features student organizations, the renowned Jarvis Marching Band, and local community groups, showcasing the vibrancy and spirit of the university.
  • Worship Services: Reflecting the university's Christian foundation, Sunday services during Founders' Homecoming offer an opportunity to come together in faith and thanksgiving.
  • Community Engagement: Founders’ Homecoming is also a time to celebrate Jarvis Christian University’s commitment to service, with community service projects and outreach activities that foster a sense of unity and impact beyond campus.

A Celebration of Excellence

As we celebrate our past, Founders' Homecoming is also an opportunity to look ahead to the future. The weekend highlights the accomplishments of our current students, recognizes the successes of our distinguished alumni, and celebrates the shared vision of continuing to lead in academic excellence and service.
