Jarvis Christian University President Dr. Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt has named the Rev. Dominique Isaac Grate as interim vice president of institutional advancement and development. Grate has served as associate vice president of IAD since May 2023.

“I am deeply honored and excited to step into the role of Interim Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Development,” Grate said. “Jarvis Christian University has a rich history of transforming lives, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to that legacy.

Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, Grate is the son of retired Major Willie James Grate, Jr. and Felicia A. Grate. He graduated from Richland Northeast High School in 2008 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in African-American Studies, minoring in history, at the University of South Carolina, where he studied under the world-renowned Dr. Stephanie Mitchem.

Grate was led by a call to serve in the ordained ministry of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and is a 2013 inductee into the National Academy of Young Preachers. Grate earned his Master of Divinity degree in 2015 at Wake Forest University School of Divinity, where he was an Ed & Jean Christman Fellow.

Grate began a new chapter in his life in May 2023, transitioning from full-time pulpit ministry to higher education. For fun he enjoys playing the board game RISK with friends, reading non-fiction, and watching Netflix/Hulu. A middle child, Grate has an older brother, Steven, who resides in Nashville, Tennessee, and a younger sister, Kayla, who resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.
