The Spark Award was presented Monday, November 11, by AFP East Texas Chapter President Alex Fruth at the awards luncheon in the Brookshire’s Center at the Rose Garden in Tyler, Texas, where nonprofit professionals, fundraisers, and philanthropists from across the East Texas area gathered to share ideas and strategies for advancing fundraising. The event highlighted the significant role of leadership in shaping the future of charitable giving and the importance of continued innovation in the fundraising field.
Introducing Dr. Eke at the luncheon was colleague the Rev. Dominique Grate who said Dr. Eke’s impact on fundraising extends beyond the millions of dollars of financial resources he helped generate throughout his career – his leadership has inspired others to follow suit, creating a ripple effect of generosity that will continue for years to come. Grate said Dr. Eke’s dedication to character, mentorship, and professional development has helped nurture the next generation of fundraisers and nonprofit leaders.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Eke expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of collaboration and community support in achieving meaningful change. He thanked the incredible teams he has worked with and those who inspired him to pursue fundraising as his life’s work.

As Dr. Eke enjoys retirement, he plans to continue his philanthropic efforts in new ways, focusing on consulting and mentoring young professionals and supporting causes that are close to his heart.
