HAWKINS, TX — Jarvis Christian University is excited to announce the return of its transformative I-RISE Summer Bridge Program, a dynamic, four-week research and enrichment experience designed for rising 12th graders and graduating high school seniors with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Formally known as the Interdisciplinary Research Infusion into STEM Education (I-RISE) Program, this initiative provides a unique opportunity for high school students to explore cutting-edge STEM fields in a collegiate setting. The 2025 summer session will run from June 2 through June 27, and applications are due by Friday, May 23, 2025.
Funded by the National Science Foundation, I-RISE is designed to bridge the gap between high school and college, helping students build the academic and social skills necessary for success in higher education—particularly in the competitive and rapidly evolving fields of STEM.
“The I-RISE Program is more than just a summer experience—it’s a launchpad for students who want to see themselves as scientists, engineers, and innovators,” said Dr. Antoinesha L. Hollman, Director of the I-RISE Program at Jarvis Christian University. “We provide students with real-world exposure, professional mentoring, and the foundational tools they need to thrive at the next level.”
Participants in the I-RISE program will enjoy:
- Hands-on STEM training led by real scientists and university faculty.
- College preparedness workshops covering study skills, time management, and navigating the college admissions process.
- Free room and board on Jarvis Christian University’s scenic campus in East Texas.
- And a $500 stipend to support student participation.
Perhaps most importantly, students will develop a sense of community and purpose as they interact with peers who share their interests, and gain valuable insights into the world of STEM research and discovery.
“Through I-RISE, we are creating a pipeline of diverse young minds prepared to enter and excel in STEM careers,” Dr. Hollman added. “The program reflects our mission at Jarvis to educate and empower the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers.”
The I-RISE program continues Jarvis Christian University’s long-standing commitment to student success and academic excellence, particularly for students historically underrepresented in the sciences. As a Historically Black University affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Jarvis remains focused on preparing students intellectually, socially, and spiritually for meaningful lives and careers.
Interested students, parents, and educators are encouraged to apply and learn more about this exciting opportunity. For questions or to request application materials, contact Dr. Antoinesha L. Hollman at 903-730-4890 ext. 4001 or via email at ahollman@jarvis.edu.
