Jarvis Christian University Welcomes Dr. MiSchelle A. Edwards as Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life
HAWKINS, Texas — Jarvis Christian University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. MiSchelle A. Edwards as the University’s new Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life. A seasoned higher education leader, Dr. Edwards brings extensive experience in student affairs, strategic enrollment management, residence life and housing, student success, and institutional advancement.
Throughout her career, Dr. Edwards has served students at public, private, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), developing innovative programs that strengthen enrollment, improve student retention, and foster a vibrant campus community. Her leadership philosophy centers on creating transformative, student-centered experiences that empower students to thrive academically, personally, and spiritually.

As Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life, Dr. Edwards will provide leadership for student engagement initiatives, residence life operations, student success programs, and efforts that cultivate a welcoming and inclusive campus environment. Her experience in strategic planning, family engagement, and first-year experience programming will play an important role as Jarvis continues to strengthen student support services and enhance the overall collegiate experience.
Dr. Edwards earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management with a concentration in Higher Education from Hampton University. She also holds a Master of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Prairie View A&M University. Her academic preparation, combined with years of professional leadership, has equipped her to champion student access, persistence, and holistic development.
Beyond her administrative responsibilities, Dr. Edwards is passionate about mentorship, transformational leadership, and expanding educational opportunities for underserved students. She views her work in higher education as a calling, believing she is fulfilling her God-given purpose by serving students, advocating for their success, and preparing the next generation of leaders.

Dr. Edwards is also an active leader beyond the campus community. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and The Links, Incorporated, organizations that reflect her lifelong commitment to scholarship, servant leadership, and meaningful community service.
Her appointment comes at an exciting time for Jarvis Christian University as the institution continues to expand student success initiatives and prepare for another academic year focused on excellence, engagement, and holistic student development.
