HAWKINS, TX — Jarvis Christian University will welcome music royalty to its campus during the 2025 Founders/Homecoming celebration, as legendary soul artist Eddie Levert, the unmistakable voice behind The O’Jays, headlines the Pioneer Hall of Fame & Preeminence Awards Gala Concert on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The gala will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Anthony Robinson Varsity Gym at the E.W. Rand Center, followed by Levert’s live concert performance at 9:00 p.m. The evening will celebrate distinguished alumni and friends of the university who exemplify the mission and values of Jarvis Christian University through service, leadership, and excellence.

Eddie Levert, an enduring figure in R&B and soul music, has thrilled audiences for decades with chart-topping hits like “Love Train,” “Back Stabbers,” and “Used to Be My Girl.” As co-founder and lead vocalist of The O’Jays, Levert’s influence helped define the “Philly Soul” sound of the 1970s and beyond. His dynamic vocals, stage charisma, and heartfelt performances continue to captivate fans across generations.

“We are honored to welcome the legendary Eddie Levert to Jarvis Christian University,” said Dominique Grate, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development. “This concert is not just entertainment—it’s a celebration of culture, legacy, and excellence. It perfectly complements the spirit of Founders/Homecoming and the accomplishments of our Pioneer Hall of Fame honorees.”

The evening will also feature a special comedic performance by Derrick King, adding an element of laughter and levity to the evening’s program. Guests will enjoy an elegant dinner, awards presentation, and a chance to reflect on the lasting impact of Jarvis Christian University’s alumni, faculty, and supporters.

The Pioneer Hall of Fame and Preeminence Awards Gala is one of the university’s most prestigious events, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to their professions, communities, and alma mater. Past honorees have included trailblazers in education, business, faith leadership, public service, and philanthropy.
