Jarvis Christian University is hosting its annual Jarvis Fest, Monday, October 10th through Sunday, October 16th at the main campus in Hawkins, Texas. Jarvis Fest is a week-long celebration with fun, food and fellowship that features entertainment and scholarship fundraising opportunities. State of the University Address will feature Jarvis President Dr. Lester C. Newman sharing about how this year Jarvis has transformed into a university and what the future holds for the university for these next few years. The public State of the University event will be held in the Smith-Howard Chapel at 11 a.m.
The student Laser Tag activity will be held at the Ida Van Zandt Jarvis Student Center Front Lawn at 7 p.m.

The public is invited to witness the beauty and pageantry of the Coronation of Mr. and Miss Jarvis Christian University in the E. W. Rand Center Anthony Robinson Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The event is free to attend.

The Jarvis Athletic Hall of Fame Enshrinement Luncheon is a public event that honors 10 exceptional past athletes and coaches from across the university’s 110-year history. The festive evening will feature former NBA basketball player Anthony “Spud” Webb who stands 5-foot, 6-inches and, as one of the shortest professional basketball players in NBA history, is known for winning the 1986 All-Star Slam Dunk Championship, beating out legends like Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins. The Athletic Hall of Fame luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the E.W. Rand Center Anthony Robinson Gym. Tickets are $75 per person.

Rand Center Anthony Robinson Gym where formal and “after-five” clothing is paired with comfortable sneakers for an evening of music, dancing and fun. The Sneaker Ball also will feature the reveal the Top 10 Under 40 Alumni. The Sneaker Ball begins at 7 p.m. in the E.W. Rand Center Anthony Robinson Gym. Tickets are $50 per person.

Worship Service featuring Dr. Dexter Floyd of Tyler, Texas, will begin in the Smith-Howard Chapel at 11 a.m. A dedicated educator and truly gifted administrator, Dr. Dexter Floyd is the pastor of Designed for Worship Church of God In Christ in Tyler, Texas. Nationally recognized for his expertise in culturally relevant teaching strategies and optimizing the learning environment, Floyd is a 2000 graduate of Jarvis Christian University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing and accounting. His Master of Education degree is from the University of Texas at Tyler in Educational Leadership and his doctorate in education in learning and organizational change is from Baylor University. In 2006, Floyd began working with AVID schools. AVID is a nonprofit that partners with school districts to create learning cultures that narrow achievement gaps for students of color and low socio-economic status. He has worked for 14 years as a national staff developer in leadership for middle level administrators. He facilitates AVID workshops and is a consultant and curriculum writer for the AVID Center.
