Jarvis Christian University will host Spiritual Emphasis events on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22 and 23, in a program titled“Building New Faith with Old Bricks.”

Featured speakers include Dr. Bryan Carter of Concord Church in Dallas, Texas, and Dr. Kan’Dace Brock of The Message Church in San Antonio, Texas. The public is invited.

Dr. Carter will speak in chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday, followed that evening at 7 p.m. by Dr. Brock.  On Wednesday, both speakers will share the event that begins at 7 p.m.

A panel discussion on Election 2024 will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 23.

The events take place in the Smith-Howard Chapel on the Jarvis Christian University main campus at U.S. Hwy 80 East and PR 7631 in Hawkins, Texas. The public is invited.

Passionate to inspire people to grow into their full potential, Dr. Carter leads a 9,000-member congregation and is best known as a community leader, a thought leader, and a dynamic communicator.  He serves southern Dallas through working toward city transformation, building strong families, and economic development. He leads a fellowship of more than 60 African American church pastors seeking to address key needs in Dallas. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education specializing in science and math from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Arts in Christian Education specializing in Family Ministry. He received an honorary doctorate of divinity from Dallas Baptist University.

An author, Dr. Brock is a licensed master social worker, a lead pastor, and cofounder of The Message Church in San Antonio, FGB Ministries, LLC, and she founded a ministry Honey Be YOU empowering, encouraging, and equipping women. She earned two bachelor’s degrees in social work and sociology at the University of Texas at Arlington.  She attended Norfolk State University’s nationally ranked Master of Clinical Social Work program before earning a doctor of ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

She has served the City of San Antonio as a case manager connecting pregnant and postpartum women and families with resources throughout Bexar County and has conducted behavioral assessments on 3-5-year-olds to determine learning adaptations as a mental health specialist with Kent County Head Start Program in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
