Jarvis Christian University’s  Dr. Randrika C. Henderson, an Assistant Professor of Mass Communications, will lead an insightful online workshop aimed at equipping students and instructors with essential communication skills to reduce conflict. The workshop, set to begin at 10 a.m. Friday, September 27, will be conducted via Zoom.

Dr. Henderson's workshop, titled “Understanding The Assignment: Using Listening and Conflict Management Skills to Enhance Students’ Classroom Experiences,” seeks to address the challenges that often arise in educational settings. With the ongoing evolution of remote and hybrid learning environments, effective communication has become more crucial than ever. The workshop aims to foster an understanding of how clear and empathetic communication can bridge gaps between students and instructors, thereby reducing misunderstandings and enhancing the overall collegiate learning experience.

In an interview, Dr. Henderson emphasized the importance of communication in academic settings.

“Conflict is a natural part of any interaction, but how we manage it can significantly impact our educational environment,” she said. “This workshop will provide participants with practical strategies to navigate difficult conversations and foster a culture of respect and collaboration.”

Participants can expect to enhance their conflict-resolution skills. Dr. Henderson plans to incorporate real-life examples and best practices to ensure the workshop is both informative and relatable. Interested individuals can register via the Zoom link below to secure their spot.

As JCU continues to prioritize mental well-being and constructive communication among its community members, Dr. Henderson’s workshop represents a proactive step toward fostering a more harmonious educational atmosphere.

Although the workshop was created through Jackson State University, Henderson has permission to invite Jarvis faculty to attend the online workshop.
