HAWKINS, TX — As the voices of the past and present united in harmony, Jarvis Christian University made history during its 2025 Homecoming Weekend with the debut of the Inaugural Homecoming Choir Reunion Program. Held inside the Smith-Howard Chapel on Sunday morning, March 23, the program brought together alumni vocalists from across the decades for an unforgettable morning of praise, fellowship, and musical celebration.
The reunion choir—composed of former choir members spanning five decades—marked the first time in Jarvis history that a multi-generational choral ensemble was organized to perform as a signature Homecoming event. Under the direction of special guest conductor and JCU alumnus, the ensemble lifted its collective voice in worship, delivering a moving musical program that resonated deeply with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the university.
The chapel overflowed with emotion as the choir performed gospel classics and original arrangements that honored the university’s musical heritage. Many in attendance found the experience to be a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of Jarvis Christian University, where music has long served as a cornerstone of spiritual life and student formation.
“This choir reunion was about more than music—it was about connection,” said Rev. Dominique Grate, Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development, who spearheaded the event. “It was an opportunity to honor the legacy of our alumni while uplifting our current students with a living example of what it means to carry the Jarvis tradition forward.”
Participants traveled from as far as California, Illinois, and Florida to take part in this one-of-a-kind musical homecoming. Rehearsals began days before the performance, creating opportunities for alumni to reconnect with old classmates, meet new friends, and reminisce about their days singing in the chapel, touring the region, and representing Jarvis on stages across the country.
The reunion program also paid tribute to the university’s legendary choir directors, past and present, who helped shape the lives of generations of students through discipline, spiritual growth, and artistic excellence. A special moment of recognition was held for former directors and music faculty who laid the foundation for what is now one of the most enduring traditions at Jarvis.
Current students joined the ensemble for several selections, creating a unique bridge between the university’s past, present, and future. As alumni passed the torch to the next generation of Jarvis voices, the performance became a celebration of continuity and faith—an audible expression of the university’s mission to educate and inspire.
Audience members responded with standing ovations, joyful tears, and praise-filled worship, affirming the choir reunion as a highlight of the 2025 Homecoming experience. Plans are already underway to make the Homecoming Choir Reunion an annual tradition, further strengthening alumni ties and expanding the university’s rich musical legacy.
